Volunteer Opportunities for College/High School Students

Do you need school service hours? Looking for some great extracurricular experience for those college applications? Or do you just want to find a way to give back to the community? Well, look no further, because Shepherd's Table is the perfect place for young adults to volunteer!

Shepherd’s Table welcomes all students 16 years of age or older to come to ST and lend a helping hand. We strongly believe that engaging young people and helping educate them about the persistent problem of homelessness is an important part of our overarching mission to interact with the entire community and show people all the ways we can work together for change. With that in mind, starting in 2007, Shepherd’s Table pauses to give special recognition to a young volunteer or youth organization that has been making an extra effort to help our homeless clients. This year, our first-ever Shepherd's Table Youth Volunteer Award went to Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart for their ongoing commitment to helping our guests and clients. Thanks, Stone Ridge!

If you’d like to volunteer at Shepherd's Table, we have a few simple guidelines we ask you to follow. Please dress appropriately. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, along with a shirt that covers the midriff. Volunteering at Progress Place is satisfying work, but you need to come dressed for the job! Avoid wearing strapless tops or tops with spaghetti straps, shorts, sandals, or anything that doesn’t cover your midsection. And make sure that you come prepared to work. Leave your cell phones, pocketbooks, and personal items at home or safely locked in your car. Volunteering is a real commitment and we need all your energy and concentration to be focused on the task at hand!

All volunteers, young or old, need to attend a brief volunteer orientation to learn how they can best help out at our facility.
